Here is how I am building the seat assembly for the riding cars.
 
First I cut a piece of 3/4 sanded ply slightly oversize and trimmed it to the car using a router with a flush trimming bit.
 
 
Then I used a table saw with a dado cutter to cut a 3/4"x1/4" groove for the sides to sit in. Then I driled the sides with a pocket hole jig. Below you can see the first side installed.
 
 
Here is the car with both sides glued and screwed in place. I will be adding the front and rear supports along with building the bench seat later this week.
