Adjusted the reversing lever and Stevenson Gear. Re-timed locomotive and adjusted D valves. Runs smooth as silk now and has good forward and reverse no matter where the cutoff is. Ran it around for a few hours and it was perfect.

Also removed the check valves from the propane connectors. This should fix the fuel cutout problem we were experiencing. Now both tanks can be opened, they will equalize and draw evenly from both tanks without problems.

I used to be a rocket scientist, now I am just a space cadet.

You only need three tools in life - WD-40, Duct Tape, and a Hammer. If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape. If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Charlie Giordano and Phillip Cohen worken on the Americans steam dome today 11/22. Noticed a leak in it when we fired her up on Saturday 11/21 so we decided to come down and fix it before it became more of a problem. Sealed it up real nce and no longer leaks! Was also able to get a look in the boiler. Looks pretty good inside. Hopefully the engine will stick out for some more time! She runs good but its a matter of taking her out and steaming her to check for leaks and what not. Shes a work in progress but weve been pretty lucky considering the problems you can run into on a steam engine like this.Smile

5-5-10
Tom D. took the loco back to his shop and fixed the plumbing to the axle pump, with a new check valve and piping. I added new bigger pipes for the steam and water lines going the the injector, moved the injector start valve to the top of the cab, did a good boiler wash, fixed a broken bolt, make a new gasket and resealed the top of the steam dome, installed a new smaller A&K whistle, made  a new bolt for Johnson bar link, installed a new bushing in the link and spent allot of time adjusting it, made a new plate that labels all the valves on the manifold in the cab, drilled a new hole in the draw bar so the tender sets much closer to the loco, made the front coupler and pilot come off so loco will fit in the 8' truck or van, cleaned the paint off the outside of the rings on the wheels so loco looks better. I brought the loco back to the club on 5-15-10 fire it up and make adjustments as needed. The loco is running great, it is  much easier to run and is making allot of steam.

Throttle Linkage fixed on 12/5/10 by SCLS crew and crown sheet cleaned. The loco was steamed afterward and tested for about an hour and ran nicely out in the winter rain. Below and in the club gallery is a picture of the fixed throttle with a stainless steel wire, replacing the original old pin that fell out.
