RMI Prairie Step 1: The Journey Begins

   Tim and I are driving up to Roll Models today in Fresno, CA to pick up the Prairie locomotive kit and other goodies. We will be taking Tim's truck as my old POS truck can't handle a long road trip to Fresno and return up The Grapevine on Hwy 5. We also rented a U-Haul trailer to help carry the goodies, that was a story in itself. Pictures to follow.
It is estimated that the Prairie locomotive construction will take from 4 to 6 months to complete. Progress pictures and info will be posted here for each step in the construction of the 3.75" scale RMI Prairie kit. Feel free to post and ask questions or contribute some helpful hints to make the assembly job go easier.

This will be my first locomotive construction project. Will see how it goes.

	I used to be a rocket scientist, now I am just a space cadet. ------------------------------ You only need three tools in life - WD-40, Duct Tape, and a Hammer. If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape. If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

	Tim and I left for RMI in Fresno at around 5am. We had breakfast on the road and arrived at RMI at around 10am. We started loading some of the boxes into the truck. The boiler was the first thing loaded. This is a view of about half of the parts for the Prairie. Some of the Tender parts being loaded. The tender frame. The fully loaded truck and trailer with locomotive parts as well as 8 and 10 foot engine stands. Ready to hit the road around noon. It all made it down to Torrance without loosing anything. Then the fun began of clearing a space to put everything. We also had to figure out how to move the boiler which weighed in at around 350 to 400 lbs. without my forklift which was borrowed by a friend and not returned. We muscled it down and it is now a permanent fixture in the front of the garage area blocking my BBQ so no burgers for a while. Next posting will show some of the parts and the work area that will be used for construction.
