I think that design will have some problems with leakage. In order to allow it to slide you will have to make it a loose fit as the metal will expand when it gets hot. I guess the pressure on the outside will press it against the block and stop leaks but you will have a lot of friction on the plate, kind of like the American.

I think the teardrop that charlie was talking about was the shape of the plunger in a sort of gate valve. Instead of a flat plate there is a teardrop shaped plunger that seals. Kind of like a shaped needle valve.

the one I have used in the past on other things was a barrell tpye vave that has a off set built into it.the club atlantic looks to have this type of throttle on it.in the past I would have sad not to pull it apart to see how its built but now Im thinking we should take a good look at it to see what its all about as that info may help with other club members projets .I think joe got charlee thinking about this when he was showing him that loco.its alwas one of the things joe points out when showing the loco and says tis the best working throttle hes used.

I'm getting sick of that left over cat food, and now that's getting harder to find! You know who is next on my list! I can be a good Rocky or a bad Rocky it's all up to you as you can see I have a mask and I know how to use it
